The Department of Islamic Studies and Philosophy at Lorestan University started its academic activities in 2012 with the admission of B.A. student. There are 8 faculty members in this Department and they tries to raise students' awareness on philosophical knowledge in both shaping the individual and social life, and conducting research in various fields of knowledge and therefore to enable philosophy, as a scientific field, to contribute greatly to development of societies. The Department of Islamic Studies offers a multi directional and multi-optional program that extends from Tafseer (exegesis of the Qur’an) to historical sociology of Muslim societies, from Hadith (traditions of the Prophet) to modern Islamic thought. Lorestan University aims to equip its students with knowledge and skills that will enable them to have an in-depth understanding of the religion and civilization of Islam, as well as a closer comprehension of today’s world. Also, the Department not only opens doors to the great heritage of Islamic civilization for its students, but also enables them to discover the philosophy and knowledge that are produced in the modern world.
