Department of Arabic language and literature

The Arabic language is the key to understanding the culture and history of more than 22 nations and more than 280 million speakers. It is the language of an ancient civilization and today is spoken widely across North Africa, the Middle East, and the Arabian Peninsula. The Department of Arabic Language and Literature at Lorestan University was established in 2005 with the admission of B.A. students. Also, M.A. and Ph.D. degree were formed in 2007, and 2011 respectively. Now it has 6 faculty members, 164 students at undergraduate level (B.A.), 81 students at graduate level (M.A.), and 20 students at doctorate level (Ph.D.). The aim of the field is to give students thorough training in Arabic literature, and to enable them to carry out advanced research in those and related areas. This means that great emphasis is placed on course work in the original sources written mainly in Arabic in the classical period of Islamic civilization. Arabic is also the liturgical language of more than a billion Muslims, and it is one of the six official languages of the United Nations.
